Almost Real Art at the Royal Academy

  • Category: Art & Culture
  • Dates: Thursday, 01 November 2012 to Sunday, 17 February 2013

Date: November 1st 2012 to February 17th 2013

The Royal Academy will be hosting an exhibition from satirical artist Mark Hampson called Almost Real Art, commencing on November 1st 2012.

Hampson has been working in residence at the academy since 2010 and has created a witty and thought-provoking archaeology of its collections and library, which subverts and elaborates upon the established narrative in various ways.

Mock-historical artworks combining image and text pose questions about why art societies like the Royal Academy exist and how they have been shaped by individuals and social trends, while also sending up the traditional image of artists.

The exhibition is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 GMT until February 17th 2013 at the Tennant Gallery.

People staying in The Chesterfield Mayfair Hotel in order to see the show can indulge themselves with the A Room With Every Bottle of Louis Roederer Cristal package, which offers a complimentary bottle of Champagne.

Also included in the deal are full English breakfasts and a newspaper each morning, as well as free Wi-Fi access for guests at the luxury London hotel.
