Christmas in Covent Garden

Covent Garden, the beating heart of London town, is a fun place to grab some casual street entertainment. There's always something going on here, and Christmas time is particularly special. Under the watchful gaze of the giant topiary reindeer that dominates the piazza, there is all kinds of festive fun to be had.

Book yourself into the nearby Chesterfield Mayfair Hotel for easy access to all of the action, plus a Christmas package you won't forget in the form of the Magical London offer. A warming mulled wine or hot chocolate on arrival, plus a festive afternoon tea. What could be better?

Things start getting festive in the last week of November where, under the bewildering array of fairy lights in the iconic Market Building, the eclectic Shop of Delight will be setting up store for the holiday season. Selling all manner of goods, it's the perfect place to do some early shopping in time for the big day.

Covent Garden's Real Food Market, which runs every Tuesday and Friday, will also be doling out the seasonal treats from the end of November. In addition to the mince pies and Christstollen, there will be a chocolate stall offering handmade sweets. For a warming drink, visit the mulled wine bar - it's easy to spot as it looks like a giant Christmas present.

The Great Christmas Pudding Race

For some madcap seasonal fun, get along to the Great Christmas Pudding Race 2013 on December 7th. It's every bit as crazy as it sounds - contestants must dress up and complete an obstacle course while carrying a plated Christmas pudding, all in the name of charity. It is a mark of how popular the event is that 2013 is its 33rd year in Covent Garden.

Reindeer petting

One for the children, reindeer petting returns this year, with Santa's faithful creatures on hand (or hoof) every Saturday in December leading up to the big day. Head to the East Piazza from 11am (except December 18th when they'll be on the West Piazza) to get a good look.
