Explore London on your own two feet from a hotel in the heart of this glorious city

When it comes to getting acquainted with a city as charismatic as London, getting the Underground from one attraction to the next just isn't going to do. It's the sprawling maze-like alleys and the wide grand streets that make this fantastic metropolis what it is. For this reason, it's well worth taking a walking tour on your first day in the city.

If you're interested in getting to know London, where better to base yourself than in the middle of one of its most fashionable and thriving districts - Mayfair? At The Chesterfield Mayfair, you're guaranteed to know what's going on thanks to our knowledgeable concierge, who can direct you to all the best walking tours around. Just to get things off to a good start, here are a few of our favourites.

London Walks

These fellows have been pacing the streets of the capital for longer than anyone can remember, and with a fascinating selection of meanders for you to embark on, there's something for even the most knowledgeable London scholar to discover here. Our recommendation is the Old Mayfair wander, which is described by the organisers themselves as the 'Champagne and caviar of London Walks'. A fascinating walk through the oldest part of the district reveals ghosts, ghouls and enough skeletons in closets to necessitate a fairly extensive graveyard, it's a great experience for adults and children alike.

Muggle tours

Lovers of JK Rowling's boy wizard will not want to miss this fantastic tour of London, which takes you to a variety of places that feature in the books and films. From the Leaky Cauldron to the mythical Platform Nine and Three Quarters (yes, it does exist!) you'll get a fascinating insight into Harry's magical world. Then there's the Millennium Bridge that was destroyed by Death Eaters during the opening scene of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; Diagon Alley where Harry purchases his school things; Shaftesbury Avenue where the trio apparate to after being chased by Voldemort's supporters - it's all there. And a knowledgeable guide who knows all the best Harry Potter trivia and anecdotes is on hand to entertain.

The Tour Hub

The Tour Hub offer an incredible guide of Mayfair that takes you to some of the best shops in the world where you can taste chocolate created for Her Majesty the Queen, scout the Best Wine Shop in the world for lost vintages, venture inside London's most haunted house and buy proper tea at the East India Company Boutique. Along the way, you'll witness houses where Hendrix and Handel lived, where Queen Elizabeth II was born and where Johnny Depp once spent the night in a police station. Finally, stop on a bench and have a chat with Winston Churchill. Or at least, a statue of him.
