When we hear the buzz of honeybees, we know summer has arrived! It's well documented how important bees are to everyday life and research has shown that one in three mouthfuls of the food we eat is dependent on pollination. Did you know The British Beekeepers Association tells bee fans that “Bees fly about 55,000 miles to make just one pound of honey, that’s 1½ times around the world”!
To celebrate the arrival of summer and indeed bees, Executive Chef Ben Kelliher has created a special new afternoon tea entitled ‘Afternoon Bee’ - inspired by the 60,000 bees that live in the hives on the rooftop of The Chesterfield Mayfair and from the flowers that these bees find as they forage the city.
To start the Afternoon Bee, guests are offered refreshing iced mint tea which has been designed to clear the palate and embark on the bee themed journey through a summer garden journey. A selection of finger sandwiches are accompanied by a feast of creative sweet treats including baked scones served with freshly made jams, honey and clotted cream. Afternoon Bee treats include delicious indulgences such as carrot cupcake topped with ginger and honey cream and dusted with pollen and Rosemary and honey macaroons with chocolate ganache to name a few! See the full Afternoon Bee Menu for details.
A selection of 16 loose leaf teas accompany the Afternoon Bee. Favourites include a special rosebud infusion; Organic Rosebuds tea is caffeine-free and the tightly packed rosebuds gradually release their fragrance to create a smooth calming taste. Another highlight is a flowering tea; Elderflower and Lemon Verbena which combines white honey-scented flowers with the light citrus notes of lemon verbena.
At the end of each afternoon tea all guests are invited to dip their hand into the honey pot for a guaranteed prize on their next visit: perhaps a discount on their next Afternoon Bee, a bottle of Champagne or an overnight stay in one of The Chesterfield Mayfair’s luxury suites.
Our Afternoon Bee will be served daily from 26th May until 28th September 2014. Booking is essential.
