Event: The Flora London Marathon
Date: April 13th 2008
One of the largest sporting events in London, the Flora London Marathon takes place this April 13th.
Whether participants or spectators, guests from luxury London hotel the Chesterfield Mayfair are likely to be among the throngs filling the roads and pavements to be a part of the buzzing atmosphere created by the run.
Attracting around 30,000 runners each year, the Flora London Marathon sees runners of all ages and abilities take part. Entrants run for pleasure and for charity and top athletes attending the event also run to get the best times.
And those residing at luxury hotel the Chesterfield Mayfair need not travel far to watch the spectacle, as the marathon will wend its way from Greenwich Park and Blackheath onto Surrey Quays, Canary Wharf, the Tower of London, Embankment, Parliament Square and The Mall by Buckingham Palace.
Fundraising really is a key part of the marathon, with participants raising a total of £315 million for charity since 1981 according to Adventure Marathons.
Expect to see plenty of bananas, chimps, cartoon characters and other oddly dressed runners doing their bit for good causes.
