Riders to the Sea at the Coliseum

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the death of Ralph Vaughan Williams, the composer's Riders to the Sea opera is coming to London next month.

Adapted from the JM Synge play, the opera is set in the Aran Islands and is described as a "moving and compelling piece" by the English National Opera website.

The story focuses on powerful music which conveys the feeling of loss one mother has suffered at the hands of the sea and highlights the battle islanders face from the sea on their doorsteps.

Viewers will see the anguish a family has had to endure after losing all but one male family member to the water and a view into the mind of Maurya, who predicts her last son's death, Whatsonwhen claims.
