Die tote Stadt at the Royal Opera House

Event: Die tote Stadt
Date: January 27th until February 13th

One man's battle to leave the past behind and embrace the future will be played out to audiences at the Royal Opera House next month.

Erich Korngold's Die tote Stadt was a huge success in the 1920s but time has been cruel to it and it has remained largely forgotten in recent years.

Guests at the luxury London hotel the Chesterfield Mayfair can enjoy drama, atmosphere and emotion before they head back to the comfort of their suite.

Paul is a man tormented by the death of his wife Marie, something which he cannot and will not forget.

His life changes however when a young woman named Marietta enters the fray, a lady who bears more than a striking resemblance to his dead spouse.

Paul becomes torn between his loyalty to Marie and his attraction to the newcomer.

Marietta is determined to win the grieving man's heart, but her interference with his shrine to his wife leads to devastating consequences for her.

Guests staying at the Chesterfield can enjoy their own tale of seduction and lust by taking advantage of the hotel's Mayfair Suites package, which provides a bottle of champagne, a three-course table d'hote meal, chocolates and flowers to set the romantic mood.
