Italy, 1863 and young soldier Giorgio Bachetti is a man who is going places.

His skill and courage have marked him out as an exceptional soldier and his credentials have not gone unnoticed by his superiors.

Keen to develop this talented young fighter, army chiefs relocate him to a remote outpost in the north of the country, separating him from his married lover Clara.

Deeply in love with his mistress, Giorgio vows to remain in constant contact with her and maintain their illicit but passionate relationship.

He arrives at his new home and immediately encounters Fosca, the reclusive and ill sister of his commanding officer Colonel Ricci.

Despite her deteriorating health, Fosca falls for the young soldier's intellect and quest for knowledge and becomes obsessed with him.

Giorgio remains unmoved however, stating that his heart belongs to the beautiful Clara who he left behind in Milan.

Fosca is not a woman who gives up easily and her persistence, coupled with the eventual break up between Giorgio and his mistress, sees her get her man, but at a terrible cost to all involved.

James Lapine's Passion is a tale of love, lust and obsession and how powerful these three things can be.
